A small home cattery, not a commercial operation.
Maine Coon Kittens Cattery is run by John Ortiz from our home in Ontario, Canada. We are a small home cattery, and that shapes everything about how we work.

Our breeding cats live with us as pets first
They sleep on the furniture, follow us around the kitchen and get the same attention as any house cat. We plan each litter around the parents' health and temperament, and we do not breed a female more often than her body can handle.
That is why we only have a few litters a year, and why waits are normal.

Where the kittens grow up
Mothers have their litters in a quiet nursery room. At around four weeks the kittens start exploring the rest of the house, and by eight weeks they are climbing cat trees, using the litter box and following us into the kitchen.
Growing up in a living room rather than a barn or a back room means our kittens already know the sound of the vacuum, the TV and a door closing. They have been picked up, brushed and had their nails clipped, and they have met people of all ages before they leave. It makes the first week in a new home much easier — for them and for you.
Healthy kittens start with healthy parents
We screen our breeding cats for the conditions that matter in this breed. If you ask to see the results, we will show you.
We think you should ask this of every breeder you speak to, not just us.
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathyThe heart condition most associated with the breed
- Spinal muscular atrophyAn inherited condition affecting the hind legs
- Hip dysplasiaScreened because of the breed's size and weight

What we ask of you
That you have thought about what a Maine Coon needs. They are large, long-lived, social cats who do not do well left alone all day.
Our care guide sets out honestly what day-to-day life with one looks like. We would rather you read it and decide this is not the right breed than find out after you bring a kitten home.
