Maine Coon Kitten Price
This is the question we get more than any other, so here is a straight answer about what a Maine Coon kitten costs, what drives the price up or down, and what you should be suspicious of.
What we charge
The price of each of our kittens is listed on its own profile on the available kittens page. It is not one flat number, because it depends on the parents, the colour and the pattern.
What a Maine Coon kitten costs generally
Pet-quality Maine Coon kittens from established breeders are commonly quoted in this range. Kittens sold with breeding rights or show potential cost more.
$1,500 to $3,500 USD
Prices in Canada vary with the breeder, the bloodline and what is included, so compare like with like rather than comparing headline numbers.
What actually drives the price
Why two Maine Coon kittens that look similar can be priced very differently.
- Health testing on the parentsScreening for HCM, SMA and hip dysplasia costs money, and it is the single thing most worth paying for.
- Veterinary care before pickupExams, vaccinations and deworming are already done when a kitten leaves us.
- Colour and patternSome colours are simply rarer and are priced accordingly.
- Pet versus breeding rightsAlmost all of our kittens go to pet homes.
- TimeKittens raised in a living room with daily handling cost more to produce than kittens raised in a back room.
Why a cheap Maine Coon kitten is usually expensive
If you see a Maine Coon advertised for a few hundred dollars, something is missing. Ask what. Most often it is health testing on the parents, veterinary care, or a contract.
A kitten bought cheaply from an unscreened pair can cost far more later in cardiology bills than the difference you saved.
Ask any breeder, including us, what the parents were tested for and ask to see the results. A breeder who will not show you is telling you something.
Budget for the first year too
The purchase price is not the whole cost. Plan for these as well.
